About this place
Fragrant with cumin, the lamb in Amu-tei’s cumin-fried lamb set meal is served with a small side dish, rice and soup. It makes lamb the centrepiece of a hearty meal. One diner who had visited several times for lunch singled out the cumin flavour; on another visit, a different diner wrote that the lamb had no unpleasant smell and went well with rice. Their impressions differ in detail, but it’s a tempting option even for anyone trying lamb for the first time.
Other set meals pair lamb with different ingredients, including spring onion, or wood ear mushrooms and egg. The spicy lamb and aubergine stir-fry also comes with rice, soup and a small side dish, and is an option if you want a little heat. For a spicier meal, there is also lamb tanmen. One diner who chose the medium spice level reported that it contained lamb, garlic chives, spring onion, carrot, tofu, wood ear mushrooms, onion and cabbage. Another noted the generous amount of vegetables and soft noodles, making it a bowl to consider if you want plenty of toppings as well as noodles.
Dinner can also be a chance to build a meal from small plates. One diner ordered cumin-fried lamb, spicy lamb and a salad of pea shoots and wood ear mushrooms, and mentioned the salad’s tang, the crisp texture of the pea shoots and the mushrooms’ pleasing chew. A vegetable dish between the lamb plates is another way to round out the meal. On a different evening, a diner enjoyed lamb gyoza with vinegar and pepper, followed by moist fried rice generously studded with lamb. Whether you choose a set meal or share several small plates, there are different ways to explore the lamb dishes.
The drinks menu includes draft beer and green tea highballs, which pair well with small plates at dinner. Amu-tei also welcomes solo diners and offers both lunch and dinner menus: a rice-based set meal at lunchtime, or a selection of dishes in the evening.
